ABOUT THE INTERACTIVE LIBRARY

Why should you buy from the UniversityOfHealthCare/UniversityOfBusiness Interactive Library?

The titles are like books, only better.

·        One added feature is the interactivity. It is made to reinforce and extend learning through questions, and to maintain involvement through responses.

·        Another is that they can be used for documentation of course completion. All courses provide a certificate of completion for a passing score of 80% on the final exam. This enables corporations to maintain a record of the employees’ training, or for individuals to document their skills for employment.

·        Many have multimedia and animations that illustrate and entertain.

·        They are all well written and easy to understand, but are rich in content.

·        We have collected groups of courses into certificate programs. These enable the learner to demonstrate and certify expertise in a certain area.

·        We specialize in stories and humor. Some of the titles here are meant to read like novels, or are based on humor. We believe that you will enjoy them and learn better from them.

·        Our titles deliver consistent high quality. As of this writing, we have never received less than a four star review.

UniversityOfHealthCare/UniversityOfBusiness also provides web-based e-learning services and hundreds of other e-learning courses. If you are looking for a training solution for a large organization, contact us at sales@uohc.com or 866-864-2266.

All the CDs are piracy-protected and require Internet access to receive an activation code. They are licensed to one user on one computer. The publisher will generally allow (at its discretion) the same user to put the program on a second computer that the user owns. You must have Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher running on your computer. Supported operating systems are Windows 95, 98, 98 SE, ME, 2000, or XP. You will need Internet access to e-mail us your unique key and receive a password key. You must have a valid registration serial number. It is found on the inside of your CD or book.

Most CDs require less than 50 MB of disk space to install. However, a multimedia program such as Secrets of a Leadership Coach may require 500 MB of disk space.

MANUALS AND BOOKS: We offer a choice of CDs with an accompanying manual that summarizes the major points of the CD.

We now have multi-user CDs of many titles for 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100 users. These are meant to be installed on one computer only, but allow many people to take the tests for much less than the price per single user. If you want a multi-user CD that we have not yet produced, just request it from us at sales@uohc.com. The latest list of available CDs will always be at www.atlasbooks.com/uohc.

We are making text only versions of many of our longer and more popular titles. We are generally calling these “Guidebooks.” We are making our titles available in as many formats as possible. Some of the guidebooks on medical subjects offer a test for nursing credits at the end.

LIBRARY EDITIONS

The library editions differ in three ways from the standard book/CD editions: (1) They will allow one run on any single computer, but they may be permanently activated for a single library computer. The library may network to that computer. A serial number accompanying the book will be necessary for registration, and the request must come from a library email address. (2) They are priced differently. (3) They do not have the final quiz, which is more appropriate for a corporate audience, to document training completion. Check the Atlas website for the latest details and availability.

If a book or CD does not have a special library edition, then a library can purchase the regular book/CD combination.

MANUALS AND BOOKS

Here is an example of how the manuals appear with our new look. Most are 6x9 inches for convenient reference.

SUGGESTIONS FOR USE BY OUR MAJOR CUSTOMER GROUPS

The broader public can use many of our titles. They are all written to inform in a clear, accessible manner. The Management, Sales, and OSHA categories have titles of general interest. We would like to give some special advice about which titles are most useful to certain groups of customers.

Ideas for Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Companies

The purpose of this section is to direct you to the products that will help you the most. Note: Even if a title includes the work “pharmaceutical,” it still is relevant to all FDA-regulated industries.

What are the different formats of UniversityOfHealthCare products and how do they help you?

Our best products involve interactive publishing and we recommend these the most. These enable a higher level of learning through well-planned use of media, review, and interactivity. In addition, through the generation of a certificate of completion, the products not only inform but they also document mastery of a subject. We have different formats for different audiences:

--Web-based learning: Using the internet or an intranet for learning works best for larger organizations that need to track large numbers of people for compliance or organizational development purposes.

--Multi-user CDs: CDs made for small to large groups enable discounts for many users on a single computer and provide documentation of completion for compliance.

--Manual or Book combinations with CDs: These are for people who want CDs for individual use but also want to have a paper reference.

--CDs: The interactive course for an individual user.

--Guidebooks: These contain the text of most of the material in a CD without the need for a computer.

What products are generally useful for the industry?

--Global Pharmaceuticals in the 21st Century is a great introductory overview of major trends in the industry.

--Pharmaceutical Regulatory Documents is a searchable CD reference of the major documents in different categories of FDA supervision. OSHA Regulatory Documents and HIPAA Regulatory Documents are searchable CDs and great reference tools for many departments.

--Medication Errors is for everyone in the medication chain to help reduce errors.

What are the products appropriate for a pharmaceutical or medical device sales force?

--Powerful Pharmaceutical Sales and Powerful Medical Device Sales are comprehensive, flagship products that give an excellent view both of the facts of the sales environment but also develop the ability of the salesperson to develop consultative selling relationships with providers in order to develop the best kind of profitable, long-term relationships. These products contain lots of videos and role-plays.

--Laugh and Learn Pharmaceutical Sales Code is a great compliance tool that helps keep the company and the salespeople out of trouble by learning what is appropriate with doctors. The Laugh and Learn series uses the exploits of some bumbling sales reps to teach how to do things right.

--We have a complete series of Sales Management courses, available online only.

--We have a great selection of interesting and enjoyable sales and business skills courses that will help the sales force become more effective: Sales Body Language, Sales Humor Delivery Skills, Sales Humor Writing Skills, Writing Clearly, Internet Searches, Laugh and Learn Sales Letters 1, Laugh and Learn Sales Time Management, Laugh and Learn Sales Territory Management, and PowerPoint with Sales Tips.

--We have numerous healthcare related courses online, such as Healthcare Economics, Anatomy and Physiology, and many more medical science courses that will help with understanding the market and the diseases.

--HIPAA courses are more and more relevant. HIPAA 3C Marketing has items of particular interest.

What products will help you with leadership and business skills?

--Large organizations require leadership and business skills. We offer an acclaimed program on leadership, behavioral change, and team building using the Goldsmith method. Marshall Goldsmith is one of the world’s top CEO coaches. With our series Secrets of a Leadership Coach, you will learn his techniques.

--Members of all departments can benefit from formal learning or refreshment of business skills. You can use Internet Searches to learn how to obtain information from the Internet for the benefit of your organization. You can take sales, marketing, and healthcare economics courses to improve your ability to respond to the ever-changing marketplace. You can take Writing Clearly to improve writing skills. You can take our Human Resources series to make sure you are handling your personnel the best way possible.

--Many areas of business law are relevant to conducting business. Many managers will want to take courses on contracts and other legal issues. (Online only.)

What products will help you with manufacturing?

Regulations, regulators, and lawyers besiege FDA-regulated manufacturing. One of your most powerful tools to demonstrate you have thoroughly and conscientiously trained your staff is a certificate of successful completion of a test on a subject.

--All businesses are required to provide appropriate OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) training. The most common subjects in healthcare organizations are Bloodborne Pathogens and Safe Lifting. We have many more, such as Medical Radiation Safety and Fire Safety. Compliance isn’t the only reason to train for safety; happier, healthier staff make a more pleasant work environment, and safety means fewer lawsuits and lower workers compensation premiums. Some training programs are more for administrators, such as Surviving OSHA Inspections. Some are useful for any office environment, such as OSHA Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and OSHA Computer Related Illness. Workers using equipment and chemicals should take OSHA Eye Safety.

--Pharmaceutical Quality Control Lab teaches you about the most frequently cited problems in quality control.

--Computers are a crucial part of life in modern manufacturing. Pharmaceutical Computer Validation Introduction will teach you the basic concepts of computer validation in an enjoyable manner. Agent GXP FDA Part 11 teaches you about electronic records; not only is it enjoyable, but it also teaches a deeper understanding of the regulations.

--Lean Six Sigma is made for every industry that wants to develop a total quality approach, for both managers and employees, and teaches about how to integrate Six Sigma with lean production and supply chain techniques. It will be available in the summer of 2005.

--Some of the modules in our Total Quality series for healthcare are for all industries and are available online.

--A general introduction to GMPs called Agent GMP and the Mystery of the Kidnapped Executives should be ready by late 2005. It will be created in the spirit of Agent GCP and Agent GXP as a mystery story with humor that teaches the regulations through the plot.

What products will help you with clinical research?

--HIPAA explicitly requires training as part of the implementation, and any clinical research runs into HIPAA issues. We have courses that teach HIPAA and how to apply it to new situations. Core HIPAA courses for everyone are 1, 2, 3A, 3D, and 4A. 3B (on psychology notes) is for special situations. HIPAA 2 Business Associates, HIPAA 3A Privacy Disclosures, and HIPAA 3D Notice of Privacy Practices are particularly relevant. HIPAA Privacy Compliance Planning is mostly directed at managerial staff.

--Agent GCP and the Bloody Consent Form is a funny mystery story that will teach you the rules of informed consent and institutional review boards in clinical trials. Agent GXP FDA Part 11 teaches you a set of regulations that are the foundation of the most advanced clinical trials nowadays that involve the use of electronic records.

--You will need to train the members of your extended study on the scientific background of the research. Online and CD courses are great ways to do that more efficiently. We have many different medical science courses, some online and some on CD.

What are the products for quality improvement in healthcare?

Total Quality in Provider Practices is a groundbreaking work in applying the techniques of Total Quality Management (TQM) to healthcare in a practical, easily understood manner. (Many of the modules in this course are equally useful for hospitals and the providers who work in them. A version with some of the modules changed to hospital-specific issues will be available later in 2005.) If you want to implement TQM in your organization, you should get the multi-user CD or use the web option, because everyone needs to be involved. We have other products catering to the development of quality: Customer care is one of the most important components of quality improvement, financial performance, and malpractice avoidance. Customer Care in Healthcare Certificate Program combines four courses, each available individually: Reorganizing for Customer and Patient Care, Provider Patient Relationships, Customer and Patient Care, and Handling Difficult People.

Medication Errors will teach all members of your organization their role in preventing these errors and may help you reduce your malpractice costs.

Quality Assurance and Outcomes Introduction will teach you about important quality concepts specific to healthcare.

Regulations, regulators, and lawyers besiege healthcare organizations. One of your most powerful tools to demonstrate you have thoroughly and conscientiously trained your staff is a certificate of successful completion of a test on a subject.

Some training programs are more for administrators, such as Surviving OSHA Inspections. Some are useful for any office environment, such as OSHA Computer Related Illness.

--Fraud: The government is getting more aggressive about blaming provider organizations for anything. One way to protect yourself is to demonstrate that you have trained your staff to avoid fraudulent behavior. Healthcare Fraud and Abuse Introduction is perfect for that.

--It is crucial to understand advance directives and other patient rights. Our CD called Patient Rights will help you.

--OSHA Regulatory Documents and HIPAA Regulatory Documents are searchable CDs and great reference tools.

How can you develop skills of your clinical staff?

We have 200 nursing skills online. Is it better for you to take an hour of your time and teach staff members yourself or to spend $25 on a course?

What will help you participate in clinical trials?

Many providers and organizations want to get involved in clinical trials. Our training can help you achieve that goal. Agent GCP and the Bloody Consent Form is a funny mystery story that will teach you the rules of informed consent and institutional review boards in clinical trials. Agent GXP FDA Part 11 teaches you a set of regulations that are the foundation of the most advanced clinical trials nowadays that involve the use of electronic records. Pharmaceutical Regulatory Documents is a searchable CD and an indispensable reference tool. Knowledge of the HIPAA regulations is also crucial.

What training will help you with JCAHO preparation?

What courses will help you with nursing development and to attract and retain talented nurses?

--Many courses are already certified nationally for nursing contact hours. If you need one certified that isn’t, we’ll take care of it for you. You can develop a leadership and skills enhancement program of your own using a selection of our hundreds of courses. We are constantly adding courses like End of Life Care Issues that deepens a nurse’s ability to care.
